Knowledge of swimming safety rules, self-rescue, and rescuing others are important components of the badge certification process because they help children stay safe in and around the water.

The Swimming Rules apply to all swimming badges (Seahorse, Bronze, Silver, and Gold). They help identify dangers early on and prevent accidents.

Self-Rescue is a requirement for the Silver & Gold Badge. This is important so that children are able to get themselves to safety in an emergency.

The Rescue of Others is a requirement for the Gold Badge. It teaches children the basic skills they need to help others in an emergency without putting themselves in danger.
